Wakefield ‘bust-a-burglar’ op underway

Police target sneak-in thieves in Wakefield

West Yorkshire Police has a number of initiatives underway in Wakefield, Pontefract and Castleford as part of a ‘bust-a-burglar’ op to catch and deter burglars. This includes appealing to the public for information, carrying out disruption visits at the addresses of known offenders and patrols in burglary hotspots.

Chief Inspector Richard Close said “Communities in Wakefield can be assured we are going to be working relentlessly to make life as uncomfortable as possible for those who prey on the vulnerable as we attack criminality when the darker nights draw in.”

The operation comes ahead of the West Yorkshire Police autumn anti-burglary campaign which they bring out in late October/early November each year as the clocks go back and nights get darker. Traditionally, burglaries increase by around 20% at this time of year so it’s important that people make sure they’re protecting their homes. They have already made several arrests.

It’s also National Home Security Month at the moment so there are lots of tips and advice for protecting your home around, including on our own blog and social media.

If you have witnessed any suspicious behaviour you can call the non-emergency number, 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
